Army Announces Timetable for Troop Withdrawal

Reuters news reported today that most U.S. ground forces will leave Iraq by the middle of 2009. Army Lt. Gen. James Dubik, the senior U.S. Army officer in charge of training Iraqi forces, made the announcement before the Armed Services Committee of the House of Representatives.

Yesterday Reuters reported that Iraqi national security adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie had demanded a withdrawal timetable from the United States before his country would sign a security agreement.  In response, this blog posted that the end of U.S. involvement in the war seemed near.

Dubik said that Iraqi security gains are reversible and that U.S. troops may still be needed for air support and training.

This bold stance by the Iraqi government is an example of what courageous people can accomplish when they stand for what is right.
