Focus Not Size of Government is the Issue

One constant fight between “conservatives” and “liberals” is over the role and size of government in our society. Though I often wonder about the size of our government, I also wonder if lack of focus is the true problem. Maybe those who oppose government intervention in education and health care should take another look at how the Constitution relates to the world in which we now live.

My alma matter looks like a war zone. A tornado literally skipped over my apartment complex last week, and it caused at least $40 million in damage to Union University.Houses on neighboring streets are missing roofs. Some are just missing. The initial damage estimate for the city is $87 million. All this and I lost nothing but electricity for nine hours.

Once again scandal has rocked the nation’s capitol. According to the New York Times, Senator Larry E. Craig, Republican of Idaho, was arrested in June by an undercover police officer in a men’s bathroom at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in the case three weeks ago.
