It’s official. The economy is in trouble. After weeks of rosy forecasts about the strength of the global economy, the mainstream media found it’s first real cause for alarm in November. Sales dropped at Starbucks, and the company had to advertise for the first time in its history. Oh horrors! What will we do now?
Where were these people in June of last year when the foreclosure rate reached its highest in more than 50 years? Why weren’t they concerned that one to two million additional homeowners are facing foreclosure this year because of the subprime mortgage crisis? What about the subsequent decline in construction projects and sales of home products, which will decrease the ability of people in those industries to meet their obligations?
Have reporters forgotten that U.S.-based companies still depend on American consumers for a large portion of their profits? We have a service-based economy since many of the manufacturing jobs have been outsourced to other countries. Most service sector workers don’t make enough money to keep the financial engines of this country running at the speed to which we’ve become accustomed.
And what about rising gasoline prices? During the price increases in 2006, I heard one man say that he needed a second job to pay for gas to get to the first. With gasoline and heating prices on the rise past last year’s still higher records, the cost of other necessities rising with them, and housing equity dropping like a rock, there’s not much money left to finance frivolous things. Lenders have reported that even people who had good credit are falling behind on their mortgages and credit card payments.
At some point all this bad news had to affect employment. Last week the Labor Department announced that unemployment rose to a two-year high in December and job growth has almost stopped.
Forgive me for sounding a little sarcastic. I’m outraged that the mainstream media wasn’t concerned until upper income people started cutting back on high-priced coffee. Thank God for the journalists on PBS, who have been reporting the truth for months. I even alluded to it in an earlier post.
Now that major institutions are feeling the winds, it’s too late to avoid the storm. Our economy is in for some serious turbulence. Hold on for a bumpy landing.

Thank you for useful information. Waiting for new posts.
I just stumbled upon your blog and wished to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your rss feed and I hope you write again soon!
Thanks for another informative website. Where else could I get that type of info written in such an ideal way? I’ve a project that I am just now working on, and I have been on the look out for such info.
I work hard at providing original content.
howdy fantastic blog site and web theme. I hope I am not troubling you I merely sought to inquire just what wordpress plugin you use to show the latest responses on your blog? I really want to do the same for my free ipod page yet I can’t find the plugin or widget for it. Many thanks for your time
No trouble at all. The widget comes with the StudioPress Prose theme. Click the icon at the top of the right sidebar to learn more and purchase an individual theme or the Pro-Plus All-Themes package. Good luck!
I searched many websites and here i found what i was looking for, thanks for valuable article
Glad I was able to help. Thanks for the compliment.
I want to make my first blog, do you think that wordpress cms is good ?
I love it. I’ve read that It’s the easiest to use of the top three, which also includes Drupal and Joomla. It’s also used by most government agencies. Drupal seems to be good for developers. Joomla is supposed to be good for designers. WordPress won the best Open Source CMS Award in 2009.
I like your site, is very good, but have you tried drupal cms, it’s even better
Thanks for the compliment, but I will stick with WP. From what I’ve read, Drupal is for developers. I’m a writer. I don’t like coding unless it’s necessary to communicate a point.
Just have bookmarked your website, and waiting for the next interesting article
I’m glad you liked what you read. “See” you next time.
I want to start my own blog too, what blog platform do you use, where i can download it ?
I use WordPress.org. It’s the most popular because it allows the most flexibility.
I also use the StudioPress All Themes Package and Genesis Theme Framework from StudioPress.com. WordPress is free, and StudioPress is $249, or you can buy individual themes. The Package gives you lifetime access to any theme they create. Genesis allows you to switch main themes without changing your basic structure. It’s more than worth the price, and they have an excellent support forum. I was lucky enough to get the package at a discount off the previous price just after they switched to Genesis because I had previously bought a single theme. Founder Brian Gardner is the father of the premium WordPress theme.
