Please disregard at least part of the rant in my last post. A dear friend of mine, a computer genius who dropped out of high school and taught himself how to build and service computers, explained almost everything I needed to know about how to solve my Website problems. He agreed that much of the information on the Internet is too advanced for beginners, but acknowledged that my needs have outgrown my current service. My friend told me to look for services with packages that include hosting for multiple sites. They are quickly becoming the industry standard. Many also provide help with site transfer, user-friendly site builders, professional templates, and good technical support.
I checked with the first host I had abandoned. They are upgrading their services, so I was able to renew for a much cheaper price than I would’ve paid to switch to a new service. Most require advanced payment of one to two years. I was able to renew on a month-to-month basis. The catch is I can’t transfer my sites anywhere until 60 days from the day I registered my new domains, and it’s been less than 30 days. The transition for my new host probably won’t be complete until the hold expires on my accounts, so I can put in more writing time until then. That makes me happy.
Though this problem seems to have been solved, the moral of this story is to seek professional advice before attempting to do something you don’t know how to do. Your project is probably more complicated than it looks.
